Welcome to the Capital Area Medical SocietyEstablished in the late 1800’s the Capital Area Medical Society (originally incorporated as the East Baton Rouge Medical Society) was one of the first Parish Societies to organize in Louisiana. It was first affiliated with the Louisiana State Medical Society in 1878 and became a chartered component in 1903. The society now stands as one of the largest component societies of the Louisiana State Medical Society.
The Capital Area Medical Society, a multi-parish organization, unites over 700 allopathic and osteopathic physicians, of all specialties toward the fulfillment of our mission: To unite, serve and represent physicians as advocates for the well being of patients, for the health of our community and for the profession of medicine.

New Partnership with LAMMICO
The
Louisiana State Medical Society (LSMS) and LSMS Physicians Services
(LPS) Partner with Louisiana Medical Mutual Insurance Company (LAMMICO)
We
are pleased to announce a new member benefit resulting from a recent
agreement between LSMS, LPS and LAMMICO. Our organizations have worked
very closely throughout our long histories to address the needs of
Louisiana healthcare providers and to develop programs and initiatives
to enhance Louisiana’s healthcare environment. Recently we have been
working on an exciting new program that will be mutually beneficial to
our members and LAMMICO insureds.
Program Benefits:
In
recognizing the value of becoming a member of the LSMS and a
physician’s respective component parish medical society, LAMMICO has
agreed to pay the LSMS annual dues for “First Year in Practice”
physicians who become LAMMICO insureds. This will be a one year only
member benefit for a first year physicians that are LAMMICO insureds and
become an LSMS member.
Since
membership in a component society is a prerequisite to LSMS membership,
LAMMICO has also agreed to pay the component parish medical society
dues for LSMS “First Year in Practice” physicians who become LAMMICO
insureds.
The combined value of this one year benefit (annual dues for the LSMS and component parish medical society) is approximately $400.00 per physician.
LAMMICO has provided a generous donation to the LPS to help sponsor its programs and initiatives. LAMMICO will also develop and present a tailor-made Risk Management Program that will be presented at the LSMS Annual Meeting in January 2012. Physicians who attend this presentation will earn one hour of CME credit.
